February 2018 Newsletter

A few words from Ms. Kerrie:

February is the shortest month of the year and always seems to fly by.  I hope your 2018 is off to a great start and that your month is filled with LOVE.

I’ve just returned from Studio Owner University (S.O.U.), a course designed to help dance studio owners learn best practices and principles to bring back to their communities.

It’s important for me to always be actively learning and growing – to build on the great atmosphere we have at this studio and to make Forevermore Dance & Theatre Arts the best place for our students to attend classes, for our families to find community, and for our talented faculty to have a great place to work!  I’m so thankful for the great team we have in place and proud of the way they held down the fort while I was away learning how to be the best I can be for Forevermore.

Sometimes, to learn MORE, we need to get out of our daily routine and back into class (even when it’s hard)! At S.O.U., I had the opportunity to meet with and learn from the directors of some of the best dance studios in the country, to listen to one of my favorite authors speak, and to challenge myself to grow. I’m filled with gratitude for the experience and to get a little extra reminder how much I truly love the work I do.

“Teachers have 3 loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the first two loves together.” -Scott Hayden

However, as important and inspiring as these conferences can be, what I learn through the day-to-day operations of Forevermore is just as valuable to me.

I learn so much from taking time to connect with our students, families, and staff. Be it popping in to observe a class or rehearsal taught by another teacher, chatting with a parent in the hall, or receiving a picture colored by a young student, these are the “real-life moments” that make me love Forevermore.

I’m super excited to return to my day-to-day routine equipped with even more knowledge and experience to continue making an impact through dance education!

Always,

Ms. Kerrie

Febrrrrruary...the "mid-year slump"

Parents, it’s that time of year when getting your child to dance class can seem extra-challenging!  With the weather fluctuations (snow, snow, and more snow), cold and flu season, and homework exhaustion setting in, February sometimes feels like “the mid-year slump.”

Not to worry though!  In our experience, this slump is only temporary. With all that’s coming up soon at Forevermore, everyone’s mid-year slump is about to turn into a mid-year boost!  March is just around the corner, so expect to hear more about these upcoming studio happenings:

• Recital costumes will start to be distributed

• Parent Participation Week

• Summer class registration will begin

If your dancer is feeling a little languid these days, just remind him/her that there’s some big excitement on the horizon! We can’t wait to ramp up for performance season and beyond!

Inclement Weather Policy

inclement+weather+information.png

In the event of inclement weather, a message will be left on the studio answering machine by 2pm (8am for Saturday classes) regarding the status of classes. An email will also be sent to all families with classes that day and a notification alert will be texted.

Please note that we do not necessarily follow school closings, as roads are often cleared or weather conditions have improved by the time studio classes begin. Additionally, it is possible that schools could be in session, but we may need to cancel studio classes due to winter weather developing later in the day.

What Kind of "Dance Parent" are YOU?

Let’s face it. Without dance moms (and dads), there would be no dancers. They’re just as important—if not more so—to a dancer’s fun and success as the dance studio they attend.

But oftentimes dance moms get a bad rap (thanks in great part to a certain television show which shall not be named). The truth is, however, dance parents come in a brilliant package of colors that enrich the entire studio. Which kind of dance mom are you? Take this quiz and find out!
