March 2018 Newsletter

A few words from Ms. Kerrie & Mr. David:

Hello Forevermore Families,

Summer is here! Well, not exactly...but the long-awaited Forevermore Summer 2018 brochures are out, and summer registration has begun!

Click here to view the variety of programs we are excited to offer this summer!

With March upon us and Spring Break just around the corner, we are all looking forward to the fresh air and extra sunshine that will be here to stay soon enough!

Although the regular dance season has been in session for months, the spring feels like its own new beginning, and I just wanted to take the opportunity to tell you all that we sure are lucky to have you here at Forevermore.

Though it may not quite feel like spring outside yet, the studio is filled with excitement for all things Recital! Costumes are arriving, and dancers are working hard on choreography. If you haven't done so already, please take the time to read our Recital Handbook 2018 (password: recital2018), as it contains important Recital dates/details!

Returning to class after Spring Break is the ideal time for any dancer to recalibrate.  Even for the youngest preschooler, it’s a new chance to work on those “focus glasses” or to bounce a little higher during your “bunny hops!” For the hard-working second-grader, there’s the opportunity to polish your pirouette technique or to gather the confidence to try free-styling in hip hop.  And for the experienced teenager, it’s the week of rest needed to come back and dig in – to push a little harder, sweat a little more, and reach for your goals.

Exciting NEWS!

By now you may have heard the great news! We are expanding our programming and adding a new facility across the street that will be home to our Acting Academy and NEW Music School! The Dance Studio will be getting a few updates in the coming year too!

The new facility, which will be completed later this spring, will include 2 music practice rooms and a spacious rehearsal/performance space/classroom (Studio D).  The venue will be available for birthday parties, special events, and an exciting variety of mini-camps, special workshops and master class opportunities for all our students. But most importantly, this will allow us to provide more classes for our students, to expand our amazing Theatre Program, and to launch our new Music School.  We will now be a “Triple Threat” as they say in showbiz: providing training in Dance, Acting, & Music.  We are MORE than excited to move ahead and we are proud to share the news with you!  Thank YOU for being a part of it.

We will be doing a “soft-opening” of our new facility with an offering of summer camps and classes beginning later this spring. The official “Grand Opening” will take place in August.

We hope you will be as excited as we are about our new summer programs! One of the camps I’m most excited about is our Musical Theater Camp! We will be producing “The Jungle Book KIDS!” for our summer show. Click here for all of the details!

We look forward to dancing with you for Parent Participation Week March 19 - 24 and hope you enjoy your Spring Break March 25 - April 1. See you in the classroom soon!

Parent Participation Week: March 19-24

parent participation week

Parent Participation Week is almost here! This is your chance to experience first-hand what your dancer has been working on in class, to get to know our teachers, and to see just how much fun and learning happens in every class! If Mom or Dad is not able to attend, please feel free to invite another adult (Grandma, Grandpa, etc.) to your child’s class so the experience can be shared!

This is a time for dancers to make a special memory with a parent or family member. Please help us by choosing one family member per dancer to share this special time with.

Be sure to wear something comfortable to move in. Can’t wait to see you there!

A Note about Skills Testing

This month is an EXCITING MONTH as we have been spending some of our class time testing our dancers on all that they have learned this year in our Graded Levels of Ballet, Tap and Jazz.

Testing Month is something the students and teachers look forward to all year. Dancers attend classes as usual, but instead of doing all of their skills and combinations as a large group, they will take turns doing them in smaller groups or one at a time. All progress will be noted on each student's Testing Record in the following way:

1 - Emerging Skill

2 - Developing Skill

3 - Mastered Skill

We will continue to note student progress through our June Recital and will send fall class placements home later this spring.

Individual placement decisions are made based upon a variety of factors including skill testing, dress code, attitude, and attendance. Teachers also work hard to make sure that all individual placements lead to classroom groupings that will work well together in the coming season.

Please note that most dancers will spend two or three years in a level before mastering all of the skills necessary for the next level. (Please also note we do not have 12 levels of Ballet that match the corresponding school grades, and some students will progress through the curriculum at a different pace.)  We encourage all dancers to give their best work between now and the end of the year, but a conversation from parents to help manage expectations goes a long way towards a positive placement in the spring regardless of what level they are placed in for the fall :)

June Recital Volunteer Opportunities

Forevermore relies on the assistance of many dedicated volunteers to provide a high-quality performance experience for your children! We encourage families to become involved with our volunteer program and greatly appreciate your help.

CLASS PARENTS are needed for each class to help supervise the dancers. Volunteers do not need a Recital ticket and will be able to watch their children perform from the side of the stage while volunteering. They are responsible for making sure that each child is in the proper costume, has the proper accessories and shoes, and is backstage at the appropriate time. This is an exciting job!

USHERS are needed for each show to assist with collecting tickets and helping audience members find their seats. Ushers do not need a Recital ticket and are able to watch the entire show standing inside the auditorium.

Click here to download a Volunteer Preference Form.

Forms will be accepted until April 28, as we would like to place as many volunteers as possible before regular ticket sales begin! All volunteers must be at least 14 years of age.

Summer Registration has begun!
